Plot Synopsis

After the opening credits scene, Geo Climbers opens with a science laboratory. Inside is the final construction of a new Boomer, a prototype called A.D.A.M.A. One of the researchers, Dr. Haynes, is talking with his friend Dr. Yuri about the old days when they were working for Dr. Stingray himself, and about Stingray's dreams of a second generation Boomer which could be a friend to humanity. Yuri talks about how he had been supposed to succeed Dr. Stingray, and then Yuri has 4 large, cybernetically enhanced men armed with submachineguns kill all the staff of the lab. Yuri then kidnaps ADAMA.

At the AD Police HQ, Leon briefs the apathetic officers about the breakout of a dangerous new Boomer prototype called ADAMA, and the theft of various data relating to ADAMA's new AI. Because the new prototype apparently killed all the lab staff, it is considered armed and dangerous, even though it's physically weak and not designed to be combat-oriented.

At the Doctor's funeral, Sylia stands back at a respectful distance and remembers the funeral of her own father. She remembers how sad she was, and how the now dead Dr. Haynes swore to her that he would make Dr. Stingray's dreams for Boomers a reality. At the same time, Priss, Nene, and Linna are in GeoCity, an underground expansion of MegaTokyo, playing golf at a club that Linna belongs to. Nene wins the round, with Linna taking third, so Linna has to pay for their lunches. At lunch, Linna indicates that she believes that the only direction for MegaTokyo to expand is down, and so she fully expects to make a good amount of money from her investment in GeoCity. When Priss is told that Boomers are responsible for maintaining GeoCity, she expresses intense hatred of all things Boomer and all people related to Boomer use, construction, and design. As the three of them are leaving GeoCity, they pass Dr. Yuri and several important looking military officers heading down into the underground staging area of GeoCity.

The next scene shows Dr. Yuri himself demonstrating his newest creation, a very, VERY powerful new Boomer weapon armed with claws, automatic cannons, and a laser. Unfortunately for Dr. Yuri, the Boomer goes berserk and attacks the observation/control room where he and the officers are watching the demonstration. It nearly kills all four of them, and the disdain for Yuri's creation is obvious when the officers complain about it having a second-rate brain.

At night, all the Knight Sabers are meeting up in Sylia's penthouse apartment when Nene spots an old picture of Sylia as a little girl, the now dead Dr. Haynes, and Yuri. She recognizes Yuri as the man with the soldiers that the three of them passed when they came out of GeoCity. Over dinner, Sylia tells the rest of the Knight Sabers that the new AI in ADAMA is the constructed version of the parts that the Illegal Army was gathering. In addition, she believes that any Boomer created by the late Dr. Haynes wouldn't be capable of killing anyone. Sylia also explains that both her father and Dr. Haynes had the same dream of making Boomers which would be kindly friends to humanity. Priss, however, sees a world like Sylia is describing as anathema, and makes that abundantly clear. As disappointed as Sylia would seem to be, she doesn't show it much and tells the Knight Sabers that she already knows that Dr. Haynes' true killer is actually Yuri.

Back at Dr. Yuri's home, Yuri is sitting before his computer system, studying the schematics for his new, still imperfect combat Boomer. Suddenly, the same voice which was responsible for conditioning the Illegal Army in Illegal Army comes over Yuri's computer and asks about ADAMA and the data on the new AI. Yuri asks for more time, and after he leaves the room, ADAMA, already activated, escapes and heads for the subway, looking for a way to GeoCity. In the process, ADAMA runs afoul of a couple of human ruffians who guide the very naive Boomer to a black-market Boomer parts shop, where they sell it. The mechanic starts getting ready to cut up ADAMA, but is forced to stop when the doorbell rings. The unannounced visitors turn out to be Leon and Daley, who are hitting known illegal Boomer chop-shops looking for ADAMA. Thier distraction provides ADAMA with the break it needs to escape out the shop's back door. Back at Yuri's place, Yuri discovers that ADAMA has escaped and begins looking for it, using the Boomers which he used to kill Dr. Haynes.

Priss, having earlier lost a game of Rock-Scissors-Paper to Linna and Nene, is walking through various underground tunnels when she discovers that she is being followed by a Boomer. She tries to send it away, but it's persistent and she finally IDs the Boomer as ADAMA. Unfortunately, they are both immediately attacked by one of Yuri's Boomers, who were sent out to find ADAMA. With ADAMA's help, Priss and her handgun kill one of the Boomers. In response, the other Boomers activate, and they catch up to ADAMA and Priss in a large underground shaft. Only with ADAMA hacking into a door's electronics do the two of them escape and make it safely to the subway. Priss calls Nene and Linna from the subway, but has to leave quickly when a female Boomer appears and, after killing two AD Police officers, chases Priss and ADAMA onto the subway. Linna and Nene, cut off abruptly, go to the subway station in search of Priss and ADAMA. After not finding either of them there, they call Sylia and tell her that Priss is nowhere to be seen and that there are two dead officers. Sylia immediately starts getting the hardsuits ready for action. Meanwhile, the female Boomer has cornered Priss and ADAMA into the far forward car of the subway, and Priss has run out of ammo. ADAMA and his new and powerful AI again save them both, this time by accessing the relatively unsophisticated AI of the female Boomer and convincing it to let them go at the GeoCity station.

Priss calls Sylia from GeoCity, and Linna, Nene, and Sylia suit up and take off from the Lady633 building toward GeoCity, taking Priss' suit along just in case. At GeoCity, a truck loaded with Yuri's Boomers pulls up outside, and Yuri himself kills one of the guards watching the access to the main entry to GeoCity. Inside GeoCity, Priss and ADAMA are talking about Priss' anti-Boomer prejudice and why she hates Boomers so much (too many of her friends have been killed by Boomers). But the conversation distracts Priss, and only ADAMA's recognition of danger saves Priss from an autoshotgun which blows ADAMA off an elevated catwalk. These Boomers of Yuri's are much more powerful and heavily armored than the prior Boomer was, and it takes Priss using a pistol grenade to kill one of them. While she's dealing with that Boomer, though, another picks up the stunned ADAMA and carries it to an elevator. By this time, Priss has dealt with most of the rest of the Boomers, and the last one throws ADAMA onto an elevator before dealing with Priss. In the combat which ensues, Priss is nearly killed when she tries to go hand-to-hand with the Boomer, and only the timely reappearance of ADAMA wielding a fire extinguisher saves her. Attempting to kill Priss using it's mouth laser provides Priss with an unarmored target, and Priss kills it with a single pistol shot. Priss and ADAMA then head to the Supercomputer room where ADAMA downloads his memory of Dr. Yuri killing Dr. Haynes and the rest of the lab staff. Unfortunately, Yuri has beat them there and traps them in the room with Yuri's combat Boomer.

Dr. Yuri tells ADAMA that he wants the new AI for use in the next generation of combat Boomer, which understandably appalls ADAMA. Yuri sets his Boomer to attack the two, and it nearly kills Priss before the timely appearance of Linna and Nene distract it enough to allow Priss and ADAMA to temporarily escape. Linna and Nene try to tag-team the Boomer with the electrospines and ultrasonics, but they don't work against the armor of the Boomer, and in return the Boomer pins both Linna and Nene against a wall with machinegun fire. The Boomer takes off in pursuit of Priss and ADAMA, who have made it to the roof where Sylia is waiting with the transport. Priss makes it aboard, but the Boomer grabs ADAMA and, in an attempt to destroy the escaping craft, cuts a tower down with it's laser, pinning both itself and ADAMA beneath the collapsing tower. Priss suits up and reappears to fight the Boomer with powerful crab arms attached to her normal hardsuit for additional strength. The added strength in the new arms enables Priss to fight the Boomer more effectively, and she uses its own laser to cut off two of its legs. The Boomer then knocks both Priss and itself over the side of the building, but Priss' arms and a hundred meters of steel cable save her. The Boomer, however, doesn't fall all the way, but instead catches itself on a ledge, and then climbs back up the building toward Priss. Priss finally kills it with what looks a lot like a light saber.

Inside the building, Sylia has found Yuri and offers him a chance to live if he's willing to pay for his crimes. Yuri screws up, pulls a pistol and the one shot he gets off ricochets off hardsuit before Sylia kills him. Behind her, the same voice which earlier talked to Yuri and Col. Lando talks to Sylia, telling her that he has acquired the data from ADAMA's new AI regardless of Yuri's attempts to hide the data or the Knight Saber's attempts to rescue ADAMA. The voice also talks about the brave new world it plans to create, and openly asks whether Sylia and the Knight Sabers have the ability to stop him. While this is happening, Priss has reached the roof again, and finds that ADAMA is "dying" without enough power to keep his memory banks active. Priss promises that she will never allow anyone to use ADAMA's AI in a combat Boomer.

With the battle over, Sylia is flying the transport back home, and Priss tells Sylia that she is starting to believe a little in Dr. Stingray's dream for Boomers.

My Review

I don't like this episode as much as the first one. ADAMA, while the most personable and "human" Boomer in Bubblegum Crash, is the least human looking Boomer out of either series. It's all blocky and tacky looking, even if it is supposed to have the most advanced AI in existence. In addition, how Sylia deduces that Yuri is responsible for Dr. Hayne's death is left totally unanswered, an intellectually unfulfilling state of affairs. In addition, the Boomers that Yuri uses are really wimpy. They're wimpy enough that Priss can actually hurt them with a handgun, and they even have to use guns themselves rather than their internal, integral weaponry. Only the last of Yuri's Boomers are even a challenge.

On the up side, though, I really like the four-legged Boomer that Yuri is creating. It's a departure from the normal human-looking Boomer and has a lot of extra power. And I like the idea that the hardsuits are modular enough to add new parts as necessary, even if Priss' crab arms are a bit cheesy looking. I also like Sylia literally baiting Yuri to the point that he thinks he actually has a chance of getting out of the building alive. She had to know that he wasn't going to let himself go to jail, and that she'd have to kill him. It's deliciously evil on her part.

In general, I'd say that this is my least favorite of the three Bubblegum Crash episodes.
